My Favorite Christmas Tree Styling Tips that Will Transform Your Home into a Winter Wonderland

Updated: Oct 8

As the holiday season approaches, the excitement of decorating our homes is in the air!

NOTE: This year, I ordered a FLOCKED TREE from King of Christmas. Stay tuned, as I will share when it arrives and it's up!

One of the most iconic symbols of Christmas is the tree, which serves as the centerpiece of festive decorations. In this blog post, I'll share some of my favorite Christmas tree styling tips that will help you transform your home into a cozy winter wonderland.

I mean, let's be honest, you can NOT go wrong.

There is no right or wrong in decorating your tree--even if your in-laws, parents, siblings or friends disagree.

This is YOUR TREE; do what brings you HAPPINESS!!

Here are the tips!

1. Choose a Theme

Selecting a theme for your Christmas tree is the first step in creating a cohesive and visually appealing look. Whether you prefer a traditional red and green color scheme, a winter wonderland theme with silver and blue accents, or a modern Scandinavian style with minimalistic decorations, having a clear theme in mind will guide your decorating process.

My personal style changes all the time, but generally, I love white twinkle lights with red and gold as my favorite. I have done everything from a clean, chich tree to a bursting-with-color multi-twinkle light extravaganza!

2. Fluff and Shape

Before you start decorating, make sure to fluff out the branches of your artificial tree or shape the branches of your real tree to create a full and lush appearance. This step will provide a solid foundation for your ornaments and lights to shine. Now, this depends on the tree you get.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

SIZE & SHAPE of your tree

FLOCKED or TRADITIONAL

3. Lights, Lights, Lights!

The key to a beautifully lit Christmas tree is to start with the lights. Choose white or colored lights based on your theme and evenly distribute them throughout the tree. To add depth and sparkle, consider incorporating different types of lights such as fairy lights or cascading icicle lights.

As I mentioned above, I love white twinkle lights but anything goes---just for SAFETY, always read the instructions and follow them.

4. Ornament Placement

When hanging ornaments, consider creating visual balance and depth on your tree. Start by placing the largest ornaments first, spacing them evenly around the tree. Then, fill in the gaps with medium-sized and smaller ornaments. Don't forget to vary the shapes, sizes, and textures of the ornaments to add visual interest. We have handmade and store-bought ornaments, as well as collectibles from trips.

I'll share in a later blog about what we do this year.

5. Tree Topper

The tree topper is the crowning jewel of your Christmas tree. Whether you choose a classic star, an elegant angel, or a unique DIY topper, make sure it complements the overall theme of your tree and stands out as a focal point. My parents always had an angel, and I love a star, but my hubby has a Star Wars tree, and I believe there is a Star Wars figure on the top--it's up to you!!

6. Garland and Ribbon

NOTE~ BE CAREFUL WITH PETS

Adding garland or ribbon to your tree is a simple way to enhance its overall look. Drape garland vertically or horizontally to create different effects, and use ribbon to weave throughout the branches for a polished and cohesive appearance.

The first time that we used ribbon was a few years ago, and I LOVE it. I'll do it again this year.

7. Personal Touches

Incorporating personal touches into your Christmas tree decorations can make it even more special. Consider adding handcrafted ornaments, family heirlooms, or DIY decorations that bring an extra layer of warmth and nostalgia to your tree.

8. Tree Skirt

Complete the look of your Christmas tree by choosing a tree skirt that matches your theme. Whether you opt for a classic red velvet skirt, a rustic burlap design, or a modern faux fur accent, the tree skirt adds a finishing touch to your holiday decor.

Sometimes we just use a blanket or fill under the tree with presents. This isn't a dealbreaker!

With these styling tips in mind, you can elevate your Christmas tree decorating game and create a magical atmosphere in your home that will enchant family and friends alike. Get creative, have fun, and enjoy the process of transforming your space into a winter wonderland this holiday season! 🎄🌟

I hope you found this helpful!!

I will share so much more about trees, as I love love love them. Once my roommate and I kept ours up through June. It started when I turned the Christmas tree into her 30th birthday tree in January.

Anything is possible and anything goes!!

XOXO Steph
